Stronger NY Economy

The strength of New York’s economy cannot be defined only by the success of big business in our state. Working class families, the real keystone to the health of our economy, are struggling to make ends meet. We have a responsibility as a State to ensure that workers have the ability to support themselves financially, and have specific and inalienable rights on the job as well as a means to report violations without repercussions. We have a duty to make the economy function for the benefit of everyone, not just a small clique of corporations.

In Albany, Anna will continue to push for the rights of workers, support for small businesses, and a fair, just economy:

Labor Rights, Vocational Training & Municipal Work

  • Allowing for Labor Peace Agreements in projects around New York where the State has a proprietary interest (A8114, Kelles)

  • Reducing the cost of municipal street and highway improvements by raising the threshold at which municipalities must competitively bid out work, as opposed to completing it in-house (A8238, Kelles)

  • Providing tuition assistance program awards for students completing programs of micro-credentialing (A4958, Kelles)

Equitable Economic Policy

  • Requiring tech platforms to pay news publishers adequate compensation for their use of work produced by journalists (A7811, Kelles)

  • Establishing a tax on corporate buy-backs of stock, incentivizing productive investment that could benefit workers and sustainable growth over inflating stock value to enrich shareholders and executives (A4877, Kelles)

  • Raising the tax on corporate income (A3690, Kelles)

  • Giving the State a mechanism to establish a capital gains tax on assets before they go to market (A3252, Kelles)

  • Prohibiting “walled gardens,” or singular access points for buying and selling software established by large tech companies in New York State, to protect customers from monopolistic practices (A8835, Kelles)

  • Providing additional funding streams for small businesses receiving funds from federal innovation and technology programs (A4507, Kelles)
